PreventIV Measures™ recognized for customer-focused package design
Each year, the Chicago Innovation Awards recognize ten Chicago-area businesses, nonprofits, and government organizations that develop the year’s most innovative new products and services. The event was created in 2002 by the Chicago Sun-Times and Kuczmarski & Associates to draw attention and raise awareness of innovation in “the Silicon Valley of the Midwest.”
The Awards attracts hundreds of entries from all over the Chicagoland area. A panel of judges narrows these choices down to the top 100 most innovative nominations, from which 10 final winners are chosen each year. In addition, the top 100 are posted online for a People’s Choice Award, which received more than 30,000 votes in 2013.
So we’re humbled and honored to report that a key segment of the PreventIV Measures™ packaging campaign, developed by Paragraphs for Sagent Pharmaceuticals, was selected as one of the 10 innovators recognized at the 12th Annual Chicago Innovation Awards on October 30.
As many as one hundred thousand people die each year from preventable medication errors, making it the third leading cause of death, ahead of automobile accidents, breast cancer and AIDS. Injectable medications are particularly susceptible to error because of the similarity of the one-inch vials they are packaged in. These vials often feature labels that make it difficult to distinguish one drug or dosage from another, especially in dim lighting conditions.
Sagent and Paragraphs worked together to develop PreventIV Measures, packaging specifically designed to distinguish each product by concentration and total strength, with the goal of helping healthcare professionals avoid medication errors.
In an interview prior to the awards, Sagent Pharmaceuticals founder and CEO Jeffrey M. Yordon praised the role of the Paragraphs team in developing PreventIV Measures. “I think it’s a great credit to our marketing team,” Yordon said.
